How can I do this.. when I try to go through the payment process it doesn't allow me.. cheers

You can upgrade through your control panel. On the left hand menu there is an option to purchase the subscription package.

Yes, when you pay, you're automatically upgraded to the supporting members group (as shown in your profile).
