I have spent months gathering the required documentation which I will submit from South Africa. I am advised that currently the waiting time (to get my British citizenship, if successful) is 9 months. That's fine. What worries me is that one of the documents requested is MY PASSPORT! Surely the Border Agency (the department which will process my application) will not sit on my SA passport for 9 months! There is no provision in the Guide to UKM which indicates that I can send a certified copy -- it simply asks for my passport.
Could one of the agents who frequent this site possibly comment on this requirement and maybe a way around it?

Certified copies of passports can be sent with citizenship applications - make sure you send every page.

I recently submitted a similar application through the High Commission in Pretoria. They made copies of my passport, and immediately returned my passport to me.
