Wrong Visa Dates Issued By Ukba

Back in April I applied for my fiancee visa from NZ, in August I received my approved visa back however they had put the wrong date on it. For some reason they had put the visa was valid from October even though I had told them in my application and over the phone that we wanted to get married in July/August.
BHC Australia emailed me a letter to go along with my passport because I was leaving the next day for the UK.
Cue me arriving in the UK and losing my passport. Found it in time to register for our wedding in October (took letter saying my visa was actually valid) and forgot to send to UKBA for amendment until a few weeks ago as it's been a whirlwind since arriving back. They have just sent me the amended passport back with a limited leave to remain visa in it saying I should get married as soon as possible as no extensions will be made on visa. They have provided limited leave to remain as they do not issue fiance visas from inside the UK.
Arrived 26 August with letter stating visa date wrong
Original visa date on passport 15 October
Married 30 October
New Limited leave to remain date 24 November valid till 24 February
So technically I was an illegal between 26 August and 15 October even though I was approved!
Applications for FLR(M) in person are for straight forward applications, would mine still be considered straight forward even though they messed up in the first place?
We should be accepted on all other fronts: we have £1500 savings, my husband has a steady job and I have a job offer to start as soon as my visa is approved and we have all the paperwork and forms filled out.
Please help as our appointment for FLR(M) is next Monday and I don't want to waste the £800 application fee.

I managed to get through to the UKBA general line and they said it should be ok but to include a cover letter stating what has happened.
I think I might call up again later in the week and see if I get the same answer...
