One last clarification so I can go to work abroad but not come back for any visit within the two years? How is that possible, so one cannot go to work abroad? One has to choose here or there?

Again, I've not said you can't visit.

But yes, you must choose. You can't keep your residency if you choose to no longer be resident.

Dear Victoria, can i just conclude by thanking you for your patience and understanding.

I wish to be resident of UK but for now i need to go work abroad for at least 2 years and was hoping within the two years i could pay a short visit to the UK before i finally come back to settle after gaining the work experience. See i don't intend to do frequent visits just one within the 2 years. Is this possible without affecting my ilr?

Once and for all, you cannot do this! You must return within 2 years TO LIVE PERMANENTLY to keep the ILR.

What not take a longer-term view - if you can stay working in the UK for a year until you (presumably) qualify for Citizenship then you can do whatever you want.

Thanks for the response SkillClear, unfortunately i've been looking for work since August and there is nothing here yet for my line of work. I will be working for an international company abroad which will hopefully give me the experience I need to come back and find a decent job. SO I guess I have to stay out of UK for a Max of 2 years and not return within the 2 years or else I lose my ILR as Victoria (who has been VERY patient with me) has advised.
