The date of a postal application is the date of postage, so if her visa expires on 24 Dec and you post the application the same day it will be an in-time application. As a matter of fact if she applies within 28 days of the visa expiry date it can still be a valid application (Question K2 on the application form refers).
Make sure that the application form is the current one (Oct 2012) and that you keep proof of postage. Post Offices may close early on 24 Dec.

Do you think they definitely need the copy of my BRP card ?
Original ILR Approval letter would;d not suffix ?

If she applies after 24th it will be accepted, but there would be no right of appeal if refused. best to not take the chance.
