Hi,

Thanks for all the support in the past. An assciate of mine is applying for his Ancestry visa and has hit, what may be a documentation snag.

Aside from the other supporting documentation he has the following:

- Grandfather's original UK unabridged birth certificate

- Father's original South African abridged birth certificate

- His own original unabridged South African birth certificate

Is there a chance this documentation will be accepted by UKBA where his father's birth certificate is abridged? Unfortunately his father was born in 1912 and South African Home Affairs have said that it may take up to a year to trace the original documentation and re-issue an unabridged birth certificate where records are that old.

Thanks in advance

I would think it unlikely as the UKBA love to refuse on a technicality.  The supporting documents for this category demand full BCs.  However, in the event of no other options, it may be worth applying, explaining, and waiting to see what the wind blows in.

I don't think your father's abridged birth certificate would  be accepted  - see the link for what an abtridge birth certificate does and doesn't contain. On the other hand the SA Home Affairs minister promised speedier processing of unabridged birth certificates from 2013
