Hi,
My HSMP extension is due in few months. For English language requirement I hold Bachelore degree (Equivalent to UK Graduate Hons) taught in English.

My university in India has provided me the letter with all necessary details in it.

But my only worry is the paper in which they have given it, is looking like normal paper. But they have given University Seal in that and University emblem, address and Contact details are printed along with other contents.

I asked my University to priovide letter in better letter head. But they told strictly that many students asking the letter for same purpose and they are providing in that way only. And they told that they cant provide anything special to me than that because it will imply that then other letters already given were wrong.

My doubt is

If the University letter is given in ordinary paper (along with emblem, address and contact details) and Duly Signed and Sealed with university seal, will it be accepted as letter in letter head?

This is for hsmp extension and not for initial hsmp application

Please kindly clarify

With the seal I don't see why there would be a problem.

Hi Victoria.

Today read from some sites that they are going to make English language requirements still harder for Tier1. They want C1 level in CEFR standard I hope. I dont think IELTS 6 is equivalent to that. May be now we require on or above IELTS 7 I think. Also I dont think Bachelor degree English will be equal to IELTS 7.

I am very much worried now. Because I am not that good in spoken english I have some speech related problem. Currently I have only IELTS 6 band score and Bachelor Degree taught in English. If I fail in new PBS system on english requirement then what will be the next?

I may not qualify for Transitional arrangement because I got my HSMP stanped on my passport on Dec 10th 2006 it is after Nov 7. Transitional arrangements are only for those who got HSMP before Nov 7 2006 (I got my initial HSMP approved under old scheme before Nov 2006, But passport was actually stamped on Dec 2006)

In this new scheme on 2008 , Is there is any information on whether will they bring transitional arrangement for those who dont qualify for extension and got initial HSMP after 2006 Nov?

I am working in UK continuously for past 4 years .. But still unsure of what will happen next. Do I have to return to home if I am not qualifying for HSMP extension?

anybody pls clarify

The transitional arrangements have not been finalised, and if you have concerns then I suggest you e-mail the BIA with your worries. There is still room for manouvre on this.

The English language test has been clarified to an extent, but they have not expressly said what the IELTS level is. I was researching this yesterday, and some universities say that GCSE C grade is IELTS 6.0, some say 6.5. Again, this is somethign that needs to be clarified.

However...if you have a degree which is equivalent to a UK bachelors, and a letter that says the course was taught in english, this will still be accepted.

Many thanks for your Kind reply Victoria.

Your information regarding acceptance of letter confirming the Bachelor Degree taught in English has given great relief to me.

Yes I will defenitly mail BIA regarding my concerns on Transitional arrangements

Can I know is there is any other major changes from the current system?

As of now my scenario is like this. (Points as per current system)

I earn £26000 per year (including overttime) - 25 Points
Age when my extension is due 30 - 10 Points (Can get 20 points here if I can apply atmost 5 weeks before expiry. My birth day is coming 1 month before expiry date. But giving 10 points here for worst case)
Education Master Degree - 35 Points
UK Experience - 5 Points

Total - 75 Points

English Taught in Bachelor Degree approved by NARIC- Having letter from university sealed and signed

With these points do you think I will qualify for extension under new rules?

Pls let me know your view as far as you know.

I am worried. Your reply will either make me to feel relieved or atleast to make me to prepare in worst case

Does the UK experience point is still there under new rule as far as you know?

I wish to apply with your help if I am qualifying for extension .But Some more months are there for it.
